Hacienda Senior Living Home Residents Visit Xiang Yun Temple

Reported by Humanistic Society Correspondent Xi Xiu in Austin

At 10:00 a.m. on May 6, eleven residents from Hacienda Senior Living Home, accompanied by staff members, visited Xiang Yun Temple, where they were warmly welcomed by Venerable Jueji and volunteer Bob.

The visitors watched the animated short film The Life of the Buddha in the main hall, followed by a talk from the Venerable on the Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and the core tenets of Humanistic Buddhism. The monastic also shared practical ways to apply Zen wisdom in everyday life, encouraging the elderly to embody mindfulness and tranquility.

In the temple’s Drip Water Teahouse, the Venerable introduced tea and Zen culture—covering tea selection, brewing techniques, and the art of mindful tea tasting—giving participants a deeper appreciation for the aesthetic of Buddhist living.

Next, a reading was shared from 365 Days for Travelers by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, featuring the essay Conscience and Confidence by Zhang Taiyan. The group also discussed the impact of AI on society, sparking thoughtful reflection on modern life.

During the vegetarian lunch, the temple offered a meal to the guests and presented a traditional egg cake to Brother Landry, who is about to begin studies at Hsi Lai Temple. The gathering concluded with everyone singing The Buddha’s Light Shines on You, offering sincere blessings.

The event ended successfully, leaving the guests enriched by Buddhist wisdom and inner peace.
