On April 29, Venerable Jueji, the abbot of Xiang Yun Temple, along with 10 members of the Austin Fo Guang Association, attended the "iACT Hope Awards" ceremony held at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin. This year’s theme was “Faith and Justice,” honoring outstanding individuals and organizations promoting interfaith understanding, social justice, and community service.
Awardees included Bee Moorhead, Executive Director of Texas Impact; former state legislator Elliott Naishtat; and the First Baptist Church of Austin. During the panel discussion, Naishtat emphasized the importance of persistent effort even without guaranteed success. Pastor Griff Martin shared how small acts of kindness can bring hope to others. Afghan refugee Arozo Hussaini expressed gratitude for iACT’s support, which helped her adapt to a new life and approach high school graduation.
A charity auction was held that evening to raise funds for iACT programs, including senior home repairs, English classes for refugees, and interfaith dialogue. Amid federal budget cuts, community support has become a crucial foundation for nonprofits.
Venerable Jueji cited a quote from Venerable Master Hsing Yun, encouraging people to warm others with kind thoughts and actions, becoming a steady rock in the storm and a source of strength for those in need.
