New Year's Eve Longevity Blessing Ceremony
On January 30, Fo Guang Shan Xiang Yun Temple hosted the first session of "Dharma Fellowship – A Home for Overseas Fo Guang Members." Taking advantage of the tradition of returning home on the second day of the Lunar New Year, the event brought participants together, making Xiang Yun Temple a spiritual home for volunteers. Nearly 15 people attended, experiencing a deep sense of warmth and belonging.
During the event, Venerable Jue Ji guided the group in reading "Greatness Lies in Inclusiveness", a collection of interviews with Venerable Tzu Ron (慈容法師). This provided insight into Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s compassion and gratitude-driven philosophy. For example, during the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, Venerable Master Hsing Yun remarked, "I am here to repay kindness, not to provide disaster relief." This statement profoundly reflected his character. He also acknowledged, "My growth was greatly influenced by Sichuan, including poets like Du Fu and Li Bai." This embodies the spirit of "A drop of kindness should be repaid with a fountain of gratitude."
Through this book, participants also learned about Venerable Tzu Ron (慈容法師), a senior monastic of Fo Guang Shan who has followed Venerable Master Hsing Yun in propagating the Dharma for over 70 years. Known for her creativity, she has played a key role in realizing the Master’s vision and significantly contributed to the development of Fo Guang Shan.
During the discussion session, participants explored Fo Guang Shan's emphasis on education and the concepts of "Global Citizens" and "Equality of All Beings." This event not only deepened our understanding of Buddhist wisdom but also strengthened our appreciation for the warm and welcoming Fo Guang family.
