On December 20, 2024, members of the Young Adult Division of Xiang Yun Temple visited the office of Constable Stacy Suits of Travis County Precinct 3 and presented gifts. The group also held an important discussion about civic engagement and the significance of community-based policing. During the discussion, Constable Suits pointed out that one of the biggest challenges facing Austin today is the homelessness crisis. As the city has grown rapidly in recent years, the number of people experiencing homelessness has also increased. This issue has been worsened by the pandemic and rising rent costs. Constable Suits explained some of the initiatives his office has implemented to assist those in need, including partnerships with local churches and ministry programs. These efforts aim to address immediate needs such as food, water, and shelter. However, he expressed concern about the lack of long-term support. He explained that many individuals experiencing homelessness face mental health challenges, which often contribute to their situation. Without proper treatment, it can be difficult for them to find work and reintegrate into society. Austin’s homelessness crisis is a complex issue that cannot be solved by any single group. It requires the collective efforts of many. To help address this challenge, the Young Adult Division of Xiang Yun Temple offered their manpower and support to Constable Suits’ office to benefit those in need.
