On Sunday, September 15th, BLIA Vice President Brad Jacobson was warmly welcomed as a guest speaker at Violet Crown City Church, where he participated in their Fall Sermon Series. This annual series invites speakers from various religious, cultural, and even political backgrounds to foster dialogue and mutual understanding, all under the unifying theme of "Learning to Love Our Neighbor in a Divided World."
Before Brad's talk, Pastor Jay Cooper and other members of the community shared brief reflections, followed by a sing-along led by their Christian country band, which further set the tone for the morning.
When Brad took the stage, he captivated the audience with a compelling and accessible introduction to Mahayana Buddhism, covering its fundamental teachings and principles. His approach was not only informative but also engaging. His ability to blend Buddhist concepts with everyday experiences helped bridge the gap between different belief systems, making the topic approachable for everyone present.
After his presentation, Brad and Pastor Jay sat side by side on stools, engaging in an insightful Q&A session. The exchange between Brad and Pastor Jay was warm and reflective, enhancing the sense of connection between their faiths.
The congregation responded with heartfelt appreciation, with many expressing their gratitude for the chance to hear a new perspective. Pastor Jay Cooper also extended his personal thanks, underscoring the importance of such conversations in a world that often feels increasingly divided.
