On August 17th, Xiang Yun Temple actively participated in the Austin Chinese Culture Festival, an event organized by the Austin Chinese Alliance. Xiang Yun Temple set up two booths focusing on vegetarian food promotion and cultural education, featuring various vegetarian dishes handcrafted by the monks and small booklets on Humanistic Buddhism. Fifteen volunteers were mobilized to assist with the event. Additionally, the temple's Lucky Dharma Band performed a captivating live show that drew significant attention.
The event was bustling with people and filled with excitement. Many attendees visited the booths to taste the delicious vegetarian food, pick up Humanistic Buddhism booklets, and learn about the basics of Buddhism. A mini Buddha bathing pool also attracted many children and parents to stop by and participate.
Many locals inquired about the English Dharma study group, tea meditation sessions, and book clubs at the booth. Volunteers warmly introduced the teachings of Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the founder of Fo Guang Shan, and the philosophy of Humanistic Buddhism, inviting families to participate in upcoming events at Xiang Yun Temple. Supervising monks, Venerable Jueji and Venerable Yisong, also visited the event to encourage and support the volunteers.
Through this event, the local community at Xiang Yun Temple was able to witness the vibrant displays of Chinese culture and felt a deep sense of pride as members of the Fo Guang community!
