From July 6 to 8, Venerable Jueji, the Director of Xiang Yun Temple, arranged a series of enriching programs for teacher and eight students from Fo Guang Shan Tsung-Lin University.
On the English Dharma Day at Xiang Yun Temple, the students participated in a full day of activities. Starting with a morning meditation course, they joined the Saturday English Dharma service and practiced giving Dharma talks to learn how to explain Buddhist teachings. In the afternoon, they attended a tea ceremony, shared their learning experiences with locals, taught a yoga class, and understood the importance of skillful means in connecting with people through the activities of Fo Guang Youth.
On Sunday, Venerable Jueji led the university’s students and teacher to visit a local Christian church, where they engaged in an interfaith exchange with pastors Greg Lanier and Jeff Robinett. This laid a solid foundation for the students to promote the localization of Buddhism in countries with Christian cultures in the future.
During the Sunday Light Offering Ceremony at Xiang Yun Temple, the students not only played Dharma instruments but also shared the "Five Harmonies" philosophy advocated by Venerable Master Hsing Yun. In the afternoon, they, along with members of the BLIA Chinese chapter, visited devotees' home for family blessings, experiencing the devotees' long-term dedication to supporting the temple.
On the 8th, the students visited the technology giant Dell and the Museum of Illusions in Austin.
This seven-day study tour in Austin not only broadened the students' horizons but also inspired them on how to integrate Buddhist principles with contemporary society, providing valuable insights and inspiration for their future Dharma propagation. Filled with immense gains and blessings, they departed on July 9 for their next destination, Hsi Fang Temple in San Diego, for another teaching exchange.
