On the morning of June 23rd, Xiang Yun Temple held the "Transcribing Sutras for Merit Dedication" Dharma Assembly, attended by approximately 50 guests and members of the Buddha's Light International Association (BLIA). First, the Director, Venerable Jue Ji, along with Venerable Yong Jia, Venerable Ru yuan, and Venerable Yi Song, led the assembly in recitation, followed by ritual hand washing and reverent transcribing of the Heart Sutra. The participants maintained upright postures and sincere minds while writing the sutras, purifying their minds and achieving inner tranquility and peace through the act of transcribing.
Venerable Jue Ji praised Dharma Sisters Bishan Su, Beatrice He, and Tuy Shi for their best penmanship and diligent sutra transcription practices at home. She presented them with transcribed copies of the Shurangama Sutra as rewards. She further explained that sutras are essential for practicing Buddhism. Writing even a single verse or sentence, or sponsoring the printing of sutras, brings immeasurable merit. Among all offerings, the offering of the Dharma is the highest. The act of transcribing sutras not only enhances memory with each repetition but also imprints the teachings in one's mind. The merit gained from transcribing can purify the mind and be dedicated to one's relatives and ancestors. The special session helped deepen the participants' understanding of the significance of sutra transcription.
